On June 2, I emailed this article regarding Social Security benefits for personnel who receive pensions. I'm reposting it here for the sake of consistency.

"Many of you know first hand about the Windfall Elimination Plan; that's the one that cut your Social Security payment because you also earned a pension through public employment. And it only applied to public employees. A pension earned in the private sector was not deemed a "windfall" and therefore did not reduce their Social Security payments.
Now, at long last, this inequality has been recognized and HR 711 seeks to remedy this inequity. The article (linked below) is from PERA, the Colorado State Public Employee Retirement Association. The suggestion to contact your Congressional representative to urge support of this bill is a good one. It will need our help. And for the meantime, it is nice that this inequality has finally been brought out into the open. It's a step in the right direction.
